NEWS ONLINE: GENERAL RESOURCES


Some of these sites are extensive directories of newspapers (at international, national and local levels), which also link to broadcast media.  Others are strictly newspaper directories with links that are organized geographically and are browseable by "section" (business, classifieds, entertainment, sports, etc).  Some are strictly "breaking news" sites, which are continuously updated.  There are also sites for newspaper archival projects.  Since many of these sites are directories, there is an inevitable amount of overlap and duplication.

•  Information for each link includes the following: scope of news (local, regional, etc.), frequency of publication, content (which may include classifieds, obituaries, as well as the usual areas of interest), archival capability, language
•  Also offers the option of links to the sites alphabetically without descriptions
•  Links to other newspaper/online news meta-sites

U.S. Newspaper Program (USNP)

•  A joint project of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Library of Congress (LC)
•  "The United States Newspaper Program is a cooperative national effort among the states and federal government to locate, catalog, and preserve on microfilm newspapers published in the United States from the eighteenth century to the present"
•  "The USNP has supported projects in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands"
•  Project listing for each state includes information about the scope of its project(s), nature and extent of material preserved, level of NEH funding support, website address; includes contact information (phone, e-mail) of project administrator
