EarthTrends: The Environmental Information Portal

•  Maintained by the World Resources Institute
•  "An online collection of information regarding the environmental, social, and economic trends that shape our world"
•  Utilizing "… a large breadth of statistical, graphic, and analytical data in easily accessible formats," this site provides access to information and data on 10 topics of environmental interest, including water resources, climate, demographics, energy, biodiversity
•  Each topical area includes resources for the following: searchable database (time series data from over 600 variables), country profiles (over 220 countries), environmental maps, feature stories, data tables
•  Target audiences include researchers, educators, students, government, business, non-profits and the general public
•  Statistical data sources are primarily from the United Nations, research institutes, professional associations/organizations; sources are identified
•  Registration is required (but it's free!)
•  Outstanding; does a fantastic job for environmental statistical data for countries and the searchable databases; a "must" for anyone researching any sort of statistical data on the environment

•  A directory of Internet and print resources, this guide provides links and citations for the following topics: environmental law/legislation, environmental performance of companies/industries, environmentally friendly products/services, hazardous/toxic substances, government sites, international organizations
•  Excellent annotations accompany most citations and links
•  Print resources cited may be found in many academic libraries or large public libraries
•  Links to related Cole Library pages
•  Excellent; although this guide is not comprehensive, it is well-structured and includes many of the best websites and print resources for topics which are discussed; a great places to begin research
