practical information on a wide variety of issues of interest for school

• Maintained by the Information Institute of Syracuse
• This is a sub-page of the “Educator’s Reference Desk,”
an online directory of resources in 12 primary areas of education
• The primary focus of “Educational Management” concentrates
on the following types of resources: “archived responses,”
internet sites, “online communities,” organizations
• In addition to the general resources listed above, “Educational
Management” sub-divides into 17 topical areas (community relationships,
education reform, personnel, school safety, etc.) which follow the resource
types established for the general resources
• Comprehensiveness of information on topical areas varies widely
• Annotations accompany each link
• Many of the links are from academic sites, research institutes,
professional associations/organizations
• Outstanding; this sub-page and its parent page provide practical
insight into many issues facing educators today; Internet links for both
topics and organizations are excellent, but the best feature of this site
is its inclusion of “archived responses,” and “online
communities,” which provide invaluable ways to gauge what other
practitioners in the field are thinking/doing
National Institute
on Educational Governance, Finance, Policymaking and Management
• Maintained by the Office of Educational Research and Improvement
(OERI), U.S. Department of Education (DOE)
• Mission: “To provide national leadership and support to
develop and disseminate information that helps guide the design and implementation
of effective governance strategies, coherent policy formation, reasonable
management decisions, and equitable finance allocations that will support
high-levels of learning by all students”
• The Institute’s activities include the following: “support
research directly,” “design and manage grants,” “support
field-initiated studies,” “provide technical assistance”
• Links to additional DOE resources for statistics, reports, articles
and research/development centers
• Provides information on the Institute’s programs/activities,
funding, and support of R&D centers
• Excellent; although this site was last updated in 2001, it still
links to many of the best federal sites for coordinating and supporting
research efforts for many facets of educational administration/leadership
