•  Links to organizations concerned with tolerance advocacy, educational reform, children's rights, bilingual education, "special education," and related educational diversity issues
•  Includes a "Discussion Forum" and an archive of CEP's quarterly newsletter
•  Excellent; does an exceptional job of linking to some of the best and most representative sites for this topic


Centre for Immigration & Multicultural Studies (CIMS)

•  Sponsored by Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University
•  Provides links to ethnic, immigration and multicultural websites throughout the world
•  Majority of sites are of American or Australian origin
•  Most originate from colleges, universities or special research centers
•  A useful directory for those seeking access to scholarly research in these areas


Contemporary U.S. Literature: Multicultural Perspectives

•  Consists of essays from February 2000 issue of U.S. Society & Values, the Electronic Journal of the Department of State
•  The essays, written by scholars, include profiles and analysis of Arab-American, African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American and Native-American literary traditions
•  Includes bibliographies and internet sites
•  Very useful, up-to-date overview


Crosspoint Anti-Racism

•  Sponsored by the Magenta Foundation (Amsterdam)
•   "Links currently to over 2,000 organizations in 114 countries;" "the Net's biggest collection of links in the field of Human Rights, Anti-Racism, Refugees, Women's Rights, Anti-Facism, Shoah, etc."
•  Browsable by country or subject area ("Indigenous Peoples Resources," "Jewish Resources & Shoah," "Human Rights/Refugees," "Disability Resources," "Gay & Lesbian Resources," "Women," "International Miscellaneous")
•  Countries' links are mostly annotated; many annotations are in English, but some are in a country's native language
•  Individual country's links vary in extensiveness
•  Searchable
•  Welcomes comments, suggestions
•  Outstanding; this is the best, most comprehensive site of its type currently available online; its links for the US alone make this site well worth the effort


Culturelink Network (CN)

•  Established by UNESCO and the Council of Europe in 1989
•  With over 90 participating member nations, the CN's goal is to "... strengthen communication among its members, encouraging international and intercultural communication and collaboration" and to encourage "... joint regional, interregional and international research projects"
•  Its database provides links to UNESCO resources and provides general information for over 1,000 institutions and networks and detailed information for over 300 institutions and networks, regarding their research projects, publications and international cultural cooperation
•  Provides information on CN's publications, and activities
•  Much of the site can be searched by non-members, but membership allows the user fuller access
•  Outstanding; serves as a worldwide clearinghouse for a variety of cultural databases, projects and other cultural resources


Diversity Bibliography

•  Sponsored by the Poynter Institute; compiled by David Shedden
•  Links to websites and contains citations to print resources on diversity
•  Majority of sites are concerned with diversity issues in the media (both electronic and print); includes many links to professional organizations
•  Links to over 20 additional Poynter online bibliographies relating to media issues/topics
•  One of the best-if not the best-sites for this aspect of diversity resources


Diversity Web Sources in Higher Education

•  Published in the September 2000 issue of "College & Research Library News"
•  Written by Mae Schreiber, Donald Juedes, Elaina Norlin, Gloria Rhodes and Ethylene Whitmire (ACRL Racial & Ethnic Diversity Committee)
•   "This article identifies Web sources with emphasis on sites that include institutional vision on diversity issues, recruitment of minority faculty, library organizations working to achieve diversity, and related issues"
•  Excellent annotations accompany all sites
•  Excellent source of academic and associations/organizations links for multiculturalism and diversity


Educational and Professional Diversity

•  Provides access to general diversity links and to links for specific ethnic/racial groups: African-Americans, Asian-Americans, European-Americans, Latina/Latino-Americans, Middle-Eastern- Americans, Native-Americans
•  Each group's links include the following: general information, electronic journals, "hot sites with a focus" (arts, popular culture, history and politics, activism, business, organizations and associations, religion)
•   "Resources on All Ethnic Groups" offers links to all-encompassing sites and electronic journals
•  Excellent content and presentation

•  Provides links to a wide variety of multicultural resources and issues, including education (for specific topics and teaching skills/tools), associations/organizations, ethnicity sites, identity (gender, religion, sexual orientation, class), museums and exhibits, online journals
•  Encourages interactivity through e-mail update list, "Community Dialogue Forums," submission of articles, and listservs
•  Links to websites for African-American history and literature, the Holocaust, Native-American history and literature, Japanese-American internment, women's history
•  Provides criteria for evaluating websites from a multicultural approach
•  This is a great site for issues and resources for multicultural education; it is also useful for multicultural sites in general


Pathfinder: Immigration in the United States

•  Short but very useful guide which links to websites concerned with immigration history, associations/organizations, federal government sites, educational resources
•  Excellent annotations accompany each link
•   "Print Resources" suggests search strategies for the most productive methods for locating relevant resources in libraries; also provides a short bibliography
•  Outstanding; not extensive, but of great use for anyone interested in the history and impact of immigration in the US


Pathfinder: Resources for and about Multiracial/Multiethnic Americans

•  Sponsored by the Internet Public Library (IPL); created by Johnna Childs
•  Short but useful guide, which links to websites concerned with multiracial/multiethnic issues; also discusses books and journals of appropriate interest
•  Not extensive, but a good place to begin research


Sociology of Race & Ethnicity

•  Maintained by Dr. Michael C. Kearl, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Trinity University
•  Provides general links for ethnicity, race, minority issues, immigrant and refugee rights
•  Contains links to African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans, Arab-Americans, Native-Americans
•  Not comprehensive but a good introduction to basic sites


Tolerance.org

•  Sponsored by the Southern Law Poverty Center, one of the foremost and most respected civil rights/human rights organizations in the US
•   "Tolerance.org is a principal online destination for people interested in dismantling bigotry and creating, in hate's stead, communities that value diversity"
•  Provides online resources and information on projects/initiatives to teach tolerance and combat prejudice; resources are organized for specific groups (adults/activists, teachers, parents, "teens," children)
•  Also provides news, "practical resources"
•  Outstanding; one of the best and most comprehensive sites for diversity and tolerance issues


Transcultural and Multicultural Health Links

•  Created and maintained by Ellen Bosman, New Mexico State University Library
•  Provides links to websites dealing with the role of culture in determining medical treatment
•   "General Resources" links to bibliographies, essays and surveys, government offices and research institutes, health profiles, special topics (aging and elderly, alternative medicine, communication, counseling, organ transplantation, etc.)
•  Links to select ethnic/racial groups, religions, and special populations (women, gay/lesbian)
•  Identifies appropriate print resources
•  This topic has been popular in recent years; this is one of the best websites, since it's very well-organized and useful for the layman as well as professionals in the field


Understanding Prejudice

•  Established in 2002 by the National Science Foundation, in co-operation with McGraw-Hill in Higher Education
•  Supplements McGraw-Hill's Understanding Prejudice and Discrimination anthology
•   "More than 2,000 links to prejudice-related resources, as well as searchable databases with hundreds of prejudice researchers and social justice organizations"
•   "Reading Room" contains "Prejudice-Related Bibliographies" for 10 topics; resources include books (in many cases, with links to vendors), scholarly journals, newsletters/E-letters, news sources, articles/essays
•  Offers a unique feature, the "Directory of Experts," which allows interested parties to consult over 200 experts/researchers (from the "Social Psychology Network") about pertinent issues/topics in 34 prejudice-related areas
•  Also includes a "Multimedia Center," "Teachers' Corner," "Contact Us" (which encourages user suggestions for contributing to the website)
•  Outstanding; comprehensive, well-designed and a great resource for researching prejudice-related issues/topics interactively


Y? The National Forum on People's Differences

•  Created and maintained by Phillip J. Romano
•  This online discussion group's goal is to give users "... a way to ask people from other ethnic or cultural backgrounds the questions you've always been too embarrassed or uncomfortable to ask them"
•   "No agenda or cause, other than to get people talking across their differences"
•  Topics of interest may relate to age, class, gender, diversity, geography, occupation, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation
•  Questions are archived by topic
•  This site is original in concept and useful for those wishing to explore other cultures' beliefs and practices without awkwardness or embarrassment
