•  Outstanding; this is one of the best sites for practical, “nuts-and-bolts” information for all sectors of the industry; especially useful for advice/links for dealing with licensing and other government/regulation aspects of the profession


America’s Test Kitchen

•  Sponsored by “Cook’s Illustrated” magazine
•  This site is the online companion of the PBS television show of the same name
•  Offers a variety of resources, including “All the recipes from the show (and some that ended up on the cutting room floor”), reviews for cooking equipment, “The Tasting Lab,” “Science Desk” and related features
•  Searchable
•  Links to commercial sites
•  A very good site for “hands-on” cooking information


Barbara’s Food & Drink Page

Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH)

•  Maintained by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor
•  This online version of the popular print publication provides up-to-date profiles of hundreds of occupations
•  Includes profiles for the following culinary-related occupations: food service managers, chefs/cooks/food preparation workers, food and beverage serving and related workers
•  Each occupational profiles includes “nature of work,” “working conditions,” employment outlook, wages, “Sources of Additional Information”
•  Also links to BLS data on employment projections and “Career Guide to Industries,” which provides an analytical overview of 45 basic industries (including foodservice)
•  Updated biennially, the OOH is one of the federal government’s most popular resources; an excellent resource for anyone researching occupational data in culinary-related industries (as well as many others)
