Placing Materials on Reserve

Library Instruction All faculty members are invited to meet with the librarians to plan research classes, update old assignments, or brainstorm ideas for new ones. The mission of the library instruction program at Johnson & Wales is to teach students how to locate, evaluate and use information effectively in order to become discerning users of information and independent learners.

Librarians and faculty are partners in this teaching-learning process. Together they construct research assignments that meet the University's educational objectives while allowing students maximum exposure to and practice with the informational resources available to them. The Library has an electronic classroom with twenty workstations that can accommodate up to forty students for library instruction.

The following are guidelines to help you plan the library instruction class:

• Contact the Library Instruction Coordinator 598-2466 or fill out the Library Instruction Request Form at least two weeks in advance of your library instruction class to allow for adequate planning time and securing preferred dates and times.
• Be sure students know location of classes, BI Room (room 204) located in the Library on the second floor of University Hall.
• Plan to accompany students to Downcity library instruction classes.
• Be advised that instruction time varies, depending on the information resources being taught and depth of assignment. Adequate time for practice using the resources will be built into the library instruction class.

A librarian will contact you to confirm your request before a class is scheduled.
