J&W students may borrow materials from the Johnson & Wales University Library. A current, valid Johnson & Wales University ID must be presented and completion of a patron registration form may be required.

Transfer students from other Johnson & Wales University campuses must visit the Circulation Desk to activate their Providence account before borrowing materials, using reserve items, or gaining remote access to online resources.

J&W faculty & staff may borrow materials from the Johnson & Wales University Library. A current, valid Johnson & Wales University ID must be presented and completion of a patron registration form is required prior to activating an account.

J&W alumni are eligible for limited borrowing privileges. Alumni must first obtain an alumni card (free of charge) issued by the Alumni Office and complete a patron registration form.

HELIN patrons with the exception of Brown University affiliates, have borrowing privileges onsite and through the HELIN Loan Request feature of the HELIN catalog. Brown University affiliates may only make online requests to borrow Johnson & Wales University Library resources through the InRhode feature of the HELIN Catalog.

CRIARL patrons who are card holders have onsite borrowing privileges. Faculty and professional staff at participating CRIARL institutions qualify to become card holders. Further information about CRIARL institutions and services.

Borrowing Time Periods J&W students, alumni, HELIN & CRIARL patrons may borrow books for a period of 28 days with the option to renew the item(s) twice, provided the materials are not requested by another patron. Most Videos and DVDs circulate for up to 2 weeks (although select Reference videos may be viewed in the library only for a period of 2 hours.) Reserve materials are generally restricted to short-term library use. Newspapers, journals, microforms, and reference materials do not circulate.

J&W faculty & staff may borrow books for a period of 84 days with the option to renew the item(s) twice, provided the materials are not requested by another patron. Videos and DVDs circulate for a period of 28 days with no option to renew. Reserve materials are generally restricted to short-term library use. Newspapers, journals, microforms, and reference materials do not circulate.

Renewing Materials All patrons may renew library material loans through this website by going to the HELIN Catalog and entering name and barcode number at Your Library Record. Renewals may also be made by calling or visiting the Circulation Desk during regular library hours.

Borrowing Restrictions All patrons will be blocked from checking out materials under the following conditions:
• The item is designated library use only (e.g. special collections of high use or hard to replace items; reference materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.)
• The patron's record has expired. (Call or visit the Circulation Desk to update.)
• The patron is a J&W transfer student and has not had his/her Providence patron record activated.
• The allowable number of checked out items has been exceeded.
• The allowable number of renewals has been exceeded.
• There is a hold or recall on an item.
• There are overdue items on the account.
• The maximum amount of money owed for overdue or billed items has been reached.
