Once you've found an item that you'd like to borrow, be sure to check out before you leave the Library.

At the Check-out Desk you can also,
- Pickup a bookmark with hours and borrowing policies
- Renew or return books
- Place a recall or hold
- Pay fines (see Borrowing Time Period & Overdue Fines)
- Check-out a Reserve Item

The Library Reserve Collection consists of course materials that have been given to the Library by your instructor. Examples of past reserve items have include:
- required textbook for the class,*
- additional readings from books or articles,
- copies of videos previously viewed in class,
- supporting materials for a research project, or
- project examples.

* Please note: the Library does not purchase class textbooks.

To find out if there are any Reserve items for your class:

  1. Go to the University Library homepage and select Library Catalog.
  2. Select "Instructor", located under "Course Reserves" in the middle of the screen.
  3. Enter your Instructor's Last Name, and select "Search." If there are any reserve items available, your instructor's name will be listed. Please note: You instructor may be teaching more than one class. Verify that he/she has put items on reserve for your class. You may need to select the appropriate Course Number (e.g. PHIL 3040 JWD) to see a listing of items on reserve for your class.
  4. Go to the Library Check-out Desk, and ask for the reserve items.
