Source Selection Remember that if historical, comparative and/or contemplative material is required, books can be the most valuable tools. Internet sources are best for specific, brief, and up to the minute information. Current and back issues of magazines offer diverse points of view and can put news into a useful context. Documentation Proper research includes appropriate documentation of sources.
Plagiarism, whether purposeful or accidental is a serious offense. Research
guides At the Library Individual reference assistance is provided any time the library is open. Materials reserved by Instructors for specific course assignments and required and recommended reading are housed in the library. Bibliographic Instruction (BI) in the use of various resources is incorporated into many course plans. Instructors often accompany classes to the library to "jump start" the research process. You are also highly encouraged to make an appointment with the Carolyn Kolconay for a private one-on-one consultation to review the latest research techniques. Ask By Phone To request research assistance by telephone, please contact the Barry L. Gleim Library at 843-727-3045 or leave a message for Carolyn Kolconay at 843-727-3044. While most questions can be answered quickly, some may require more time, in which case a librarian will return your call as soon as possible. If the question requires in-depth searching, you may be asked to come into the library. Ask By Fax Library staff can be reached by fax at 843-727-3078. Within copyright and expense limitations, information can also be sent to you via fax. Ask By Email You can email a librarian with a specific question. Replies can only be sent to Johnson & Wales students and faculty through official J&W email accounts. Students are required to have their valid J&W ID Card with barcode to borrow materials from the Barry L. Gleim Library and to use "in-house" reserve and reference items. |
