Gifts must meet the same selection standards applied to all items under consideration. They are accepted with the understanding that the Library will retain only what is appropriate and dispose of the rest. Disposal activities may include offering the material to another library in the University system or discarding unwanted items. Once accepted, gift materials become the exclusive property of the Library and are therefore subject to all Library rules, regulations and procedures. Gifts with restrictions on use or housing will be considered but they are not generally accepted. In accordance with the donor's request, appropriate recognition will be given to gifts added to the collection by affixing bookplates or labels showing the donor's name and if applicable, the name of the person in whose honor or memory the gift was made. The Dean of University Libraries acknowledges gifts in writing. Any material that bears ownership markings of another institution and does not show any indication of having been withdrawn from that institution's collection will be returned to the proper institution whenever possible. The Library cannot provide a statement of the value of gift items for income tax deductions or other purposes. Donors will be referred to appropriate book dealers if they wish to determine the value of items. Please refer donation offers to the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of University Libraries at 401-598-2899. According to University policy, an 'In-Kind Gift Tracking Form' must be completed by this office prior to receiving any donation. |
